Hi again,

The next two videos are of the animations that myself (Nicole) and Justine completed. These are just sample animations, we used in the presentation.

Final Presentations!

Posted: December 14, 2011 in Uncategorized

Hi,

Firstly, thanks to everyone who did our survey, it was greatly appreciated.

Since our interim presentation, we have been working hard on improving our presentation. It involved a number of tasks which included new concepts, audio, more research on a couple of areas.

As with anything, time seems to fly by and before you know it, the day to present is upon us. Yesterday was this day.

Our day began with a meeting in Starbucks in Carrolls so that we could add the finishing touches to our flash presentation file. Unfortunately due to my (Nicole) mistake, we were unable to include the audio in the actual file due to it been a AS2 file and not a AS3 so with that, we decided to have the files ready in iTunes on Justine’s computer.

There was a bit of a delay getting the presentation onto the mac in the room we were using for the presentations as the mouse decided to stop working and it also turned out that the computer didn’t have flash player on it. Thankfully we were able to get the file to work another way and when we went in, the mouse was working :)

For the actual presentation, we all knew what we were going to say and when the best time to switch slides would be. As this presentation was in front of all the lecturers, I know that some of us were a bit nervous in the questions they would ask. Luckily,  we didn’t get very many but instead were given suggestions on how to improve the idea :)

Now that our presentation is over, it’s time to begin work on the script. Wish us luck :)

Game Concepts

Posted: December 8, 2011 in Design, Programming

So to add a bit of depth to the Caligo, the group decided that we add games throughout the experience, just so its not a click to next page and read more text, so to have the user engage with Caligo even more, I (James) have been sketching some concepts and getting my head around how to integrate some of the games with the story. I have 3 concepts so far of games that would make an enjoyable addition to the story of Caligo:

  • The 1st game is a maze game, where the user will  have to navigate from one end to the next using the mouse to control the sprite, without touching the walls and within the allocated time of 60 seconds. This may be one of the earlier games, possibly the first, perhaps portraying it as a circuit board, in order to unlock Lexi from her cryochamber. We will have the borders decorated by our design team to portray a steampunk style, will glass, smudges, buttons, rust around the game itself.

  • The 2nd game is tile game, where the user will have a puzzle and have to arrange the pieces to create the image (Lexi, the key, etc.). The user will be given 60 seconds and 3 attempts to complete the image, if they have not complete it in those attempts, then they will be prompted with an offer to skip the game and progress with the story as if they had complete it. It will work via the user clicking the piece of the puzzle and it moves into the adjacent empty spot.

  • The 3rd game, a top down shooter, like the game Astroids, will play exactly like that, exect without the free movement. The user will be able to move in 360 degree’s, and shoot at incoming enemies. Possibly (in the story), Lexi shooting Aliens etc. 60 seconds and 3 attempts, and if it is not complete, like in all the games, the user will be prompted to skip if they wish.

The reason we prompt the user to skip is just so that the user does not feel bogged down in the game if they can not complete a game, we dont want the users of our project to walk away in frustration over not completing a game, especially since the games are meant to add a bit of depth and fun for the user to interact with.

These are just concepts and in no way developed on and may not even feature in the completed project. Hope you like them, feel free to post feedback or any ideas on what can be included throughout. Thanks

Hi,

This is an idea for our LOGO, and to set a feel for the project. See what you think?

I (Claire) may change it around a bit yet.
